CAPS aims to provide our website visitors with a rich visual, interactive, and informative web experience. To this end, we've relied on freeware, open source software, and other technologies provided at low cost to educational institutions. In addition, we've collected photos and imagery from sources both inside and outside UNM.

Phorum is a little different from the other web based message boards out there. It was designed to meet different needs of different web sites while not sacrificing performance or features.

The group of developers of Phorum had very different needs. Some needed software that could run a single forum with over 2,000 new posts per day. Others hosted over 4,000 forums on one server. The end result is a versatile product that can serve anyone's needs.

For the Phorum team, power means having the ability to make your message board do what you want it to do. Your message board should fit into your site. The developers of Phorum believe that the branding of the message board software should not over power the branding of your products and services.

VCalendar (Virtual Calendar) is an open source Web calendar application with related tools, for posting and maintaining events and schedules online, in calendar format. This is an excellent and free solution for use by online Web communities and any commercial and non-commercial organizations. Unlike any other online calendars, VCalendar comes with source code in multiple programming languages: PHP, ASP and ASP.NET (C# and VB.NET); with potential for adding more technologies in the future.

Some of the advanced features of VCalendar include:
  • Localization features, with initial Internationalization in English, Russian and German, with language selectable by end-users
  • Dynamic CSS (stylesheet) styles, selectable by end-users
  • Annual, monthly, weekly and daily calendar views
  • Multiple categories for classifying calendar events

  • Role-based user permissions and calendar configuration
