Position Summary
The Center for Academic Program Support (CAPS) hires eligible candidates to tutor various languages and multi-disciplinary fields. If you have experience helping your friends with tough homework or test questions, or you simply want to help other students excel in their courses, we want you!We currently offer tutoring in the following areas as part of our Language/MD section: Anthropology, Chinese, Economics, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Management, Music Theory, Navajo, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, and Portuguese.
What courses do I need?
We are looking for a combination of the following courses:- At least 200 level courses in the area you wish to tutor or be a native speaker of the language you wish to tutor. For example, if you would like to tutor a language, we would ask for 101, 102, 201, and 202. If you're interested in Economics, we'll ask for 105, 106, 300, and 303.
What's your incentive?
- You get College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification. This looks great on a resume!
- You help your peers succeed in class AND you get paid for your talents!
What's the catch?
- You must be available in the morning and early afternoons (generally between 9am to 2pm); this is when we experience a rush of students wanting help and when we have the biggest deficit of tutors
- You must apply for work study each semester, however you do not need to qualify for work study to be a Tutor or SI Leader.
- You must be available for pre-semester training (week before classes start)
- You must be available for Friday meetings from 3-5pm
- You must be able to work between 10-20 hours / week
