Position Summary
The Center for Academic Program Support (CAPS) is currently searching for eligible candidates to hire as receptionists. If you are friendly, have a work-study award, and want a great job for the Fall 2008 semester, we want you!
What are the minimum requirements?
- You must have experience using a computer.
- You must be comfortable helping your peers and assisting staff members.
- You must display a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
What's your incentive?
- Our receptionists are paid $7.50 / hour
- This is a great way to learn about CAPS services and get your foot in the door if you eventually want to tutor but dont yet have all the completed coursework.
- You help your peers succeed in class AND you get paid for your talents!
What's the catch?
- You must be available in the morning and early afternoons (generally between 8:30am to 2pm); this is when we experience a rush of students wanting help and when we have the biggest deficit of tutors
- You must have a work study award for the semester. More information can be found at the UNM Financial Aid website: http://www.unm.edu/~finaid/
- You must be available for pre-semester training (week before classes start)
- You must be available for Friday meetings from 3-5pm
- You must be able to work between 10-20 hours / week
To Apply
This is the absolute minimum we'll need to start the hiring process:
- A completed application (also available at the CAPS office)
- An unofficial transcript
- A copy of your financial aid showing work study eligibility
- A letter of recommendation from a previous supervisor
- Be eligible as a student employee per UNM Student Employment. Information is available at http://www.unm.edu/~wsestudy/
How do I apply for work study?
- You must have completed a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the current semester; visit http://www.fafsa.ed.gov to apply online.
- Request a work study award by checking "yes" in the appropriate box on your FAFSA.
- Contact the "Apply to" person named in the Job Request and arrange an interview.
- Take a copy of the Job Request with you to the interview.
- Return signed workstudy referral to the student employment office with proper I9 documentation.
- Visit the UNM Student Employment Office for more information.
